Global payments leader PayPal plans to hire over 1, 000 workers for its first global customer operations center in the Philippines. 

Chinese companies are interested in investing in the operations of the Philippine unit of South Korea's Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction, which recently declared bankruptcy after it defaulted on over $400 million in bank loans.

The local finance sector is reeling after ship-building giant Hanjin’s Philippine unit filed for corporate rehabilitation.
